SCIO - to enhance the capacity of the individual CVS in Staffordshire.

SCIO News - Communities Together

Communitiestogether – the first year!
www.communitiestogether.org.uk

Doesn’t time fly! Over a year has elapsed since the SCIO web portal was officially launched on 7th June 2007.

Whilst it may not yet be apparent to Voluntary and Community groups out there, a lot has gone on behind the scenes in the last 12 months. As well as promoting the portal internally and training staff in the 15 SCIO partners organisations to use it, there have been developments that may help you and your group. Here’s an update on just some of the work we have been doing:

Group Search facility

From the portal, anyone can access contact details of Voluntary & Community groups across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. These details are accessed via the Group Search facility which pulls group contact information from the SCIO database – in which we hold lots of other relevant data about your groups. Work has just been completed to consolidate the database and eliminate duplicate entries, making the search facility much clearer.

Reporting from the portal

The primary function of the portal has always been seen as a tool to help us help you! By mapping the Voluntary & Community sector across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent SCIO we can evidence the impact your work has and we will be equipped to serve you better. We now hold details on 3341 Voluntary & Community groups and are working to ensure all groups complete an annual profiling form as fully as possible – thus ensuring any reports we produce are robust. If your group hasn’t recently completed a VCS profile form, please visit the website and click on the link to download a form.

The first set of mapping reports was produced at the end of March 2007 and will soon be available on the website

Group Website

In excess of 100 VCS groups have attended the free SCIO web build training sessions and built their own web pages on the portal. Over the coming months we will be reviewing this facility and scoping out other options to help groups requiring assistance with web build.

Job Opportunities

The portal is the place to advertise third sector employment opportunities in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent for free! The Job Opportunities page has links to further info/application forms etc and is updated regularly. If you have an opportunity to advertise send details to michele@cases-vol.org.uk

Training

Via the Training menu button on the site you can now advertise, or access, details of VCS training being delivered across the area. To advertise your training events, contact michele@cases-vol.org.uk

Staffordshire Third Sector Network

S3SN now have their own area on the site – here you will find up to date information about Local Area Agreements. The recent addition of a Forum facility means you can have your say on any topics up for discussion

Over the next 12 months the look and feel of the website will change. Phase 2 implementation will bring improvements to ensure the site moves towards it’s eventual aim of being a valuable resource for the community and a tool to evidence the impact groups like yours are having on our communities.

We appreciate your comments, questions and suggestions – please do not hesitate to contact us using the details provided on this page.
